Symbiosis inc. was founded in 1999 as a common platform for a number of produce farmers sharing the same organic farming techniques. Our company’s goal is to offer a wider variety of organic produce in larger volumes while improving supply constancy. Our aim is to provide consumers with superior-quality produce at an affordable price.
Les Producteurs Biologiques Symbiosis inc. is the winner of the 2008 Méritas Jean Desjardins Award for its commitment to collective marketing in Quebec. The company mainly sells its produce to wholesalers by supplying grocery chain warehouses and certain specialized wholesalers. Some growers in the Symbiosis group do, however, sell their fresh vegetables directly at the farm.
Quality Products
Everything that we produce is certified organic by accredited certification authorities under Quebec’s Act Respecting Reserved Designations and Added-Value Claims (A20.02). Our fruits and vegetables are grown without synthetic pesticides, herbicides or chemical fertilizers. Genetic engineering and irradiation processes are strictly forbidden.
Our produce owes its exceptional quality and flavour to compost-fertilized soil, natural minerals and green fertilizer. Insect pests, plant diseases and weeds are controlled through crop rotation, the growing of disease-resistant varieties, the introduction of natural predators, the use of specialized maintenance equipment and machinery, and an efficient use of the few pest-control products that are authorized for organic farming.
Responsible Farms
Farms belonging to the Symbiosis group can be found all across Quebec. The owners of these family farms care deeply about their employees’ wellbeing and strictly abide by the laws and regulations of the Commission des normes du travail and of the Commission sur la santé et sécurité au travail (CSST). Their workers are guaranteed jobs in a respectful and fair environment. These farms create many employment opportunities and contribute to regional economic and social vibrancy. In keeping with a sustainable development perspective, we adopt balanced and environment-friendly agricultural practices so that future generations will still be able to thrive on our farms.
